“Chronic pain is a complex mind body illness. Trying to address it with one treatment is too simplistic.”
People all too often forget that emotions such as anger or anxiety (worry) can exacerbate sensations of pain. And folks come looking for that magic bullet of “no pain” from me. As much as I’d love to be that “one size fits all” answer to people’s pain, most of the time I am not the only answer. It’s important to get in touch with that mind body connection to learn what the best combination of solutions is for you.
Often the answer is multiple things such as massage and acupuncture. Or massage and chiropractic. Or massage and exercise, physical therapy, prescribed medication or over the counter medication, an anti-inflammatory diet, meditation….okay, you get the idea. The list goes on!
Sometimes I think aside from the actual physical body work I do, my biggest challenge is to get people to pay attention to what their body is telling them, and explore these combinations. How do I know these combinations are useful? I’m pretty persuasive, and I get lots of first hand reports back from clients who have begun listening to their bodies and have tried a combo!
It’s important to recognize that there isn’t one magical solution to taking care of your body. If you’re working on developing a plan to take better care of yourself, give me a call at (518) 744-2315 to learn how massage can help!
